College and Career Readiness

Advanced Placement (AP) courses give students the chance to experience college-level work while they're still in high school. Through taking AP Exams, students can earn college credit and placement.

The UC Riverside AP Readiness Program is a partnership with Riverside County Office of Education designed with two interconnected goals in mind. The program aims to improve the teaching abilities of AP instructors while simultaneously giving students the skills they will need to be successful in college level classes.

AVID stands for Achievement Via Individual Determination. AVID is implemented in more than 7,000 schools in 47 states across the U.S., plus schools in Department of Defense Education, Canada, and Australia. AVID impacts more than 2 million students in grades K–12 and 62 postsecondary institutions. It includes professional development, resources and support for teachers.

CaliforniaColleges.eduCaliforniaColleges.edu is the State of California’s official college and career planning platform. Lessons and tools help students discover goals for life after high school, make plans to achieve them, and launch their futures. It’s free for California 6th - 12th grade students, their parents, and educators.

XelloWith Xello for Elementary, students will develop a solid foundation for future success. They’ll formulate the building blocks of meaningful life and career development, setting them up for smoother transitions in school and life. Xello provides an early start on becoming future ready by engaging students with content, experiences, and activities carefully designed to encourage age-appropriate career awareness and skills development.

Advanced Placement (AP)

AP Exams are standardized exams designed to measure how well students mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. 

PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT^® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. The PSAT/NMSQT takes 2 hours and 45 minutes and consists of 3 tests: (1) the Reading Test, (2) the Writing and Language Test, and (3) the Math Test.

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT takes three hours and consists of three tests: (1) the Reading Test, (2) the Writing and Language Test, and (3) the Math Test.

Annual College and Career Fair

The Annual College and Career Fair  is held for graduating seniors to have an opportunity to review their post-secondary options by speaking to representatives and receiving information on colleges and universities of interest. We invite representatives from different universities and colleges, military branches, trade schools, and businesses to speak to our students. 

Job and Career Fair

In partnership with the Riverside County Work Force Development Center, MVUSD hosts career fairs at each of our High Schools.

Students can expect the following:

• Meet and greet potential employers
• Interview on the spot
• Learn about training programs
• Learn about higher education and career options
• Talk to military recruiters

College Signing Day celebrates students for their academic achievements, while encouraging others to follow in their footsteps toward a brighter future. 

College Network SeminarCollege Network Seminar provides High School Seniors who have been accepted to a 4 year college or university  the opportunity to meet with  Representatives from 4 Year colleges or universities they plan to attend and have been accepted to.  Students will also have the opportunity to connect with other current  MVUSD Seniors who may be attending the same university as well as network with MVUSD Alumni who are currently attending  four year colleges or universities. Most importantly, students will receive amazing resources and tips that will support their post-secondary transition to their university of choice.
