Moreno Valley Unified School District Board of Education announces new superintendent
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. – The Moreno Valley Unified School District Board of Education selects Dr. Alejandro Ruvalcaba as the finalist to become the superintendent of schools. The board is expected to approve an offer of employment at its regularly scheduled board meeting on June 11, 2024.
“Dr. Ruvalcaba has a proven track record of supporting students and increasing student achievement. His leadership is collaborative, he is someone who will help unite our community behind the work of our staff in meeting the needs of all of our students,” said Brandy Clark, president of the Moreno Valley Unified School District Board of Education. “We are excited and proud that Dr. Alejandro Ruvalcaba will become the next superintendent for our district.”
The decision comes after conducting a nationwide search that included a comprehensive process of receiving input from parents, students, district employees and community members. The search firm, Education Leadership Services, led the process, including the recruitment and review of applications from 36 candidates.
“It is an honor to be selected as the finalist for the superintendent position at Moreno Valley Unified School District,” said Dr. Ruvalcaba. “I am deeply committed to fostering an environment where every student can succeed and thrive."
Dr. Ruvalcaba is currently the superintendent of the Rosemead School District. Prior to becoming the superintendent of Rosemead School District, Dr. Ruvalcaba was the assistant superintendent of human resources and the assistant superintendent of secondary education in the Upland Unified School District. He has also served as a middle school and high school principal in the West Covina Unified School District and Pasadena Unified School District. He taught all middle school grades, specializing in English language development.
Dr. Ruvalcaba is bilingual in Spanish and credits his upbringing as a multilingual student in California schools as his ‘why’ he is an educator determined to meet the needs of every student in the Moreno Valley Unified School District.
He is humbled and excited to join the district’s team starting July 1, 2024.
“Together with the dedicated educators, staff, and supportive community of Moreno Valley, I look forward to building on the district’s successes and working collaboratively to ensure that all students receive a high-quality education that prepares them for future opportunities.”
