Educational Software Approval Request Process

Purpose Statement: Educational Software Approval Process
This website serves as the official portal for all educational software submissions, ensuring every new digital tool used in Moreno Valley Unified School District meets our non-negotiable standards for quality and security.
We mandate this rigorous, multi-stage approval process to achieve two primary goals:
-
Instructional Excellence: To guarantee that all technology integrated into the classroom is effective, equitable, and fully aligned with our district's curriculum and strategic goals.
-
Student Safety & Compliance: To safeguard student privacy by verifying every tool meets strict security protocols and complies with legal mandates, including California Education Code 49073.1, which ensures the district retains ownership and control of all student data.
By successfully completing this process, software is certified to deliver maximum instructional value while protecting the interests and data of the MVUSD community.
Educational Software Approval Process
-
STEP 1: REQUESTING PARTY: A Principal, Coordinator, or Director submits the AppTrack request with rationale and funding source on behalf of their school or department.
-
STEP 2: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: The submission is reviewed by the Professional Development team, which verifies educational value, curriculum alignment, artificial intelligence (AI) features, pedagogical effectiveness, and best practices
-
STEP 3: DATA PRIVACY & ACCESSIBILITY: The process moves to a review that focuses on vendor compliance, specifically reviewing data privacy (DPA), system compatibility, and accessibility to ensure legal requirements are met
-
STEP 4: EDUCATIONAL SERVICES: The software is reviewed by Educational Services & the Chief Academic Officer to ensure the software aligns with district goals and does not duplicate existing services
-
STEP 5: TECHNOLOGY: A final review and approval is conducted to ensure network compatibility, data security, and system integration
-
STEP 6: SOFTWARE APPROVAL GRANTED: The software is approved for use. A purchase requisition may then be submitted, but is subject to final approval in the purchasing queue.
