Middle College

The Middle College High School program (MCHS) at Moreno Valley College (MVC) was established in 1999 through the partnership between Moreno Valley Unified School District, Val Verde Unified School District, Riverside Community College, and a grant from the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. MCHS allows students to complete their last two years of high school at MVC, enrolled in both high school and college classes. MCHS students can graduate high school with more than one year of college units. Every year several MCHS seniors graduate with their high school diploma and an Associate Degree.

How does the MCHS program work?

MCHS students complete their last two years of high school (11th & 12th grade) at Moreno Valley College, enrolled in both High School and College courses
College classes are taken with college students
MCHS students enroll in 9 to 11 college units per semester, 3 to 8 college units per intersession, and
three high school classes per semester

MCHS is a two-year commitment
Through MVC college courses, MCHS students have the opportunity to complete high school graduation
and A-G requirement courses and earn units toward a college degree
The MCHS counselor works with students to develop an MCHS Academic Plan tailored towards their
academic needs and college and career plans
MCHS is designed for capable students who may be seeking alternative educational opportunities
Students who have failed four or more academic core courses may not be eligible for the programStudents do not pay for college courses ($46 per unit) but are required to pay MVC Student Fees: $55.50
per Fall & Spring semesters, $27 per Winter, and $32.50 Summer intersessions (MVC fees subject to
change)
MANDATORY MCHS SUMMER CLASSES take place during June and July. Summer college
classes will be in-person.
MCHS Academic Calendar differs from MVUSD and VVUSD’s Academic Calendars

How do students join?

Discuss the program with your parent/guardian
Discuss the program with your school counselor or participating teacher
Participate in the MCHS Parent & Student Information Meeting. Your counselor will provide you with the date and time.
To be eligible to apply to the MCHS program, both the student and their parent/guardian must participate in the MCHS Parent & Student Information Meeting.
