Department Overview

The Multilingual Department provides educational and technical support to school sites to ensure all English Learners (ELs) and Dual Language Immersion (DLI) students receive equitable access to a meaningful education. The department oversees the DLI Program, the  Language Assessment Center (LAC), and local, state, and federal mandates related to the EL program. The Multilingual Department:

• Ensures ELs develop proficiency in English in a classroom with research-based instruction designed for English language acquisition.

• Ensures ELs meet state standards through the use of core curriculum as rapidly and effectively as possible.

• Ensures DLI students attain both English and Spanish language proficiency.

• Trains on and ensures effective administration of local and state assessments such as the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California.

• Empowers Professional Learning Communities to improve student achievement by providing staff development and technical assistance.

• Promotes and provides family education.

• Embraces linguistic and cultural diversity as assets. 

• Advocates for the educational rights of all students.
