Department Overview
The Multilingual Department provides educational and technical support to school sites to ensure all English Learners (ELs) and Dual Language Immersion (DLI) students receive equitable access to a meaningful education. The department oversees the DLI Program, the Language Assessment Center (LAC), and local, state, and federal mandates related to the EL program. The Multilingual Department:

Ensures ELs develop proficiency in English in a classroom with research-based instruction designed for English language acquisition.

Ensures ELs meet state standards through the use of core curriculum as rapidly and effectively as possible.

Ensures DLI students attain both English and Spanish language proficiency.

Trains on and ensures effective administration of local and state assessments such as the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California.

Empowers Professional Learning Communities to improve student achievement by providing staff development and technical assistance.

Promotes and provides family education.

Embraces linguistic and cultural diversity as assets.

Advocates for the educational rights of all students.
