Measure X: Moving Forward for Students in Moreno Valley USD
Our mission at Moreno Valley Unified School District (MVUSD) is to prepare nearly 32,000 students to successfully pursue a viable career or enter higher education, and become future-ready and positively impact the world. Our rigorous academic programs have been nationally recognized, as well as our 24 Career Technical Education paths that directly prepare students for a wide range of high-wage, high-demand careers.
Moving Forward
To provide safe, modern schools and prepare students for the future workforce, the MVUSD Board of Education voted unanimously to place Measure X, a $240 million school improvement bond, on the November 5, 2024 ballot. Without increasing existing tax rates, this bond would extend the current rate previously approved by voters at $40 per $100,000 of assessed (not market) value for so long as bonds are outstanding.
- Local School Modernization: While some classrooms and school buildings have been updated over the past few years, many of our schools were built over 30 years ago and need repairs and updates to meet today’s education and safety standards. A few of our schools are 60 years old. Our District has over 300 portable classrooms that are more than 25 years old, many of which need repair. Continuous repair has risks and is expensive. Replacing these worn-out portable classrooms with modern, permanent buildings will serve our community for decades to come.
- Community Benefits: Strong schools help keep our communities strong, even if you don't have school-age children. High-quality schools elevate our community's overall quality of life and safeguard the value of our homes.
- Responsible Financial Approach: Measure X would include fiscal accountability protections such as annual audits and an independent citizens’ oversight committee, and would provide the necessary funding for school repairs and improvements while maintaining current property tax rates.
