Federal and state accountability systems require the district and each school to annually make measurable gains in student achievement. The Program Improvement Department organizes and supports the district wide effort to improve student achievement. At the district level, the primary vehicle for strategic planning for improvement is the District/School Leadership Team (DSLT). Individual schools that are identified for Program Improvement, assigned a School Assistance and Intervention Team (SAIT), or participating in the High Priority School Grant Program are provided extra monitoring and support. The Program Improvement Department also is responsible for coordinating the use of categorical funds and staff development activities to optimize the effect of school improvement efforts.
