ACCESS stands for “Achieving Community Connections Ensuring Student Success”. This partnership has supported many initiatives and programs that enrich career development opportunities for Moreno Valley youth that would not otherwise be possible. The Mission of “ACCESS to the Future” is to support Moreno Valley Unified School District in all components of Career Technical Education involving partnership and collaboration with business and community organizations that empower students, educators, and parents to prepare for this Century … and beyond! Programs and Projects Internships Students work for an employer for a specified period of time, which may or may not include financial compensation. Students’ workplace activities may include special summer projects, a sampling of tasks from different jobs, or tasks from a single occupation. Students earn credit through their high school Work Experience program. ASVAB Testing ACCESS sponsors two special administrations of the Armed Services Vocations Aptitude Test (ASVAB) with follow-up services to interpret test results. Career Speakers Program Employer and employees visit students in the classroom and explain the work in their industry or company. Career Day events are typically held to allow students to meet with employers and employees, or human resource professionals, to learn about education and work opportunities. Career Day Activities are designed to help students think about their interests and abilities in relation to potential careers. CHOICES Is a dynamic interactive decision making model in the form of a two-class-period seminar presented on two consecutive days. Through creative and concrete exercises, it deals with motivation, time management, academic decisions and career consequences. The program stresses self-discipline as the “key to success.” As a CHOICES speaker, you will be conveying the relevance of education in a preparation for adult life, particularly as it relates to career opportunities. District College Fair This is a yearly event which provides access to college and vocational programs at a one-stop event. College representatives from all over the United States attend this event. Junior Achievement Conduct a once a week turnkey lesson (5-8 weeks) in a classroom. This is an exciting, age-relevant, interactive economics awareness program. Training and all materials are provided. Mock Interviews with Students Participate on an interview panel for students who are practicing for real job interviews. Give feedback to students and teachers. On-Site Mock Interviews Provide a ‘real life’ interview (at a local business) for youth to practice dress for success and interview skills. Employer provides a feedback to youth.
Involvement with ACCESS Our youth and the local economy are relying on you to help ACCESS achieve goals related to enriching career development opportunities for Moreno Valley. There are many opportunities in which you can participate. If your busy schedule prohibits you from attending and participating in ACCESS events and programs, donations are gratefully accepted. Fundraisers ACCESS to the Future conducts fundraisers throughout the year such as the Phantom Ball and Saluting Education. The Phantom Ball is on April 1st and you may attend as you wish and eat whatever you wish. Saluting Education is a yearly recognition event honoring school district staff and educators. Business and industry partners have the ability to purchase ads in the Saluting Education booklet. Access Partners can also contribute to an annual sponsorship.
