Accountability & Assessment are important components of the District's instructional program. Students in grades 2-11 participate in the state's Standardized Testing and Reporting program (STAR). STAR includes administration of the California Standards Test (CST) in grades 2-11; California Alternate Performance Assessment (CAPA) in grades 2-11; California Modified Assessment (CMA) in grades 3-11; Standards-based Tests in Spanish (STS) in grades 2-11; physical fitness testing in grades 5, 7, and 9; and Golden State Examinations to students completing one of the thirteen courses for which an exam is offered.
School site progress toward state standards is measured through the Academic Performance Index (API). This index is a number ranging from 200 to 1000. The state has set a target of 800 for all schools. Each school is expected to annually decrease the gap between the school API and 800. The API is calculated using a combination of California Content Standards and the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) scores.
